Ten Simple Ideas to Introduce Mindfulness to Kids

(that you can do today!)

Ok- I hear you- you're busy. We all are. The mindfulness activities are things you can do right now. You don't need a lot of time, special equipment or anything. You simply need an open heart and an open mind. Enjoy!

Send kind thoughts. Ask your child to tell you three people they would like to send kind words or thoughts to. Have them take a moment to say each name and send them good thoughts.

Have your child feel to their heartbeat or your heartbeat. You could place your child's hand on your heart or theirs, pause, feel the heart beating. This is actually a super sweet moment to enjoy together!

Look at the stars. Enjoy a few moments in the evening and look up at the moon and stars together, count them, and take some deep breaths as you admire the sky.

Breathing can be such an excellent way to start the day. Pause in the morning and breathe. Look at the sunrise and take a couple of deep breaths together.

Relax your bodies. Squeeze each muscle group in the body and then release the tension. Squeeze the face, release. Squeeze the arms, release. Squeeze the belly, release, and so on. I have a great meditation to try if you have 5 minutes.

Walk barefoot on the Earth. Go outside without shoes on and feel the grass with your feet. Connect with the Earth and ask your little one- how does it feel?

Lay in the grass and look up at the clouds. Describe the clouds and what they look like or how they move.

Breathe. Take deep breaths together and count them as you go.

Walk. Take a walk, walk slowly and have your child describe what they see, feel, and smell.

Massage. Massage your child before bed, in the morning, or whenever! You can massage over clothes or grab a kid-friendly oil and massage it into their skin. It's a beautiful way to connect and bring awareness to their bodies while slowing down their minds.

When we slowly weave mindful activities into our days with our children, mindfulness becomes part of their life, not something they have to fit in or schedule. I would love to hear below in the comments if you tried any of these!
